Pristine Informationals

We have assembled several no cost “informationals” that provide some basic orientation on topics we think are most important in the home inspection process.

We’ve structured these to present to small groups of up to 30 folks. Our presentations might range from 15 minutes to two hours long. And we’re looking for opportunities to share this knowledge we know is relevant in the real estate sales process.

If you are interested in any of the topics below, please let us know. We keep a flexible schedule and will find a convenient time that works for you and your group.

We’d like you and your group to know about this stuff. And we’d love to spend some time with you!

1.
Radon ... not the same game ... but, on some level, a non-issue.
With over thirty major studies sanctioned by the USEPA, The National Academy of Sciences, and The US Center for Disease Control, we now know that radon and lung cancer are inextricably tied together. Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. Yes, this helps to make marketing homes challenging. But on some level, because the mitigation is low tech, relatively inexpensive, virtually guaranteed, and almost always works to diminish exposure to mold, it may not be an earth shattering event.

2.
An intro to building systems and construction.
This is a brief introduction to light construction building components and systems and how they synergize to keep us warm, dry, and safe. With drawings and discussion, we’ll quickly build a house for your group from the ground up.

3.
An intro to septic systems and wells.
Septic systems and wells are necessary and expensive items for many homes outside the “city limits”. We’ll share information on how they work, the equipment used, basic maintenance, and the issues you might address to consummate a sale without headaches.

4.
Mold ... well, it’s not really about mold.
As we work diligently to save energy and keep our power bills down, we very often hang onto much of the moisture we generate within our homes. In nature, we have no more mold now than we had 100 years ago. And we live in a “high country desert”. So why the mold issue in our homes? It’s really about how we handle moisture, or don’t handle moisture, within our air tight and energy efficient structures.

5.
Water inside / water outside / water everywhere!
Water issues define how we build, how much we spend on long term maintenance, and how long our concrete foundation walls will hold our homes up. This is a discussion of water, it’s properties, and how to respect its powerful effects on our most expensive purchase.

6.
Montana state law, Home Inspector Associations, liabilities, and home inspector errors and omissions insurance.
Real Estate Inspectors are not certified or registered by the State of Montana. And we have only a minimal consumer protection law at the state level. This presentation is background information. It’s what you need to know about the “system” so you can harvest the best quality report and insurance from your inspector.

Steve Jacoby is the founder and current President of The Montana Association of Real Estate Inspectors.
